Worn on an officer’s duty belt, The Alternative® is readily available to convert a service weapon to a less-lethal option within seconds and convert back to a lethal option immediately following deployment or removal. With its design for a fluid, one-handed application, an officer can keep his or her eyes and weapon on the threat at all times.
The Alternative® is a docking unit that safely and easily mounts to the top of an officer’s firearm. Its orange color signifies to other officers and individuals that a less-lethal device is being deployed. Once a bullet is fired, the strong construction of The Alternative® utilizes a proprietary alloy that captures the fired bullet and becomes a single, accurate projectile. While slowing the bullet to 20% of its normal velocity once it’s fired, The Alternative® retains precision and blunt impact force to subdue a suspect with little risk of death or serious injury. Once deployed in a real-world setting, a less-lethal impact round is delivered, the individual in crisis is temporarily incapacitated, and officers can safely effect an arrest. All lives are saved.
Drawing on years of research, testing and human effects studies, we envisioned and designed The Alternative® with feedback from PHDs, ballistics experts, and law enforcement professionals to ensure an innovative, reliable and affordable option. We conducted comprehensive testing of The Alternative® at NTS Chesapeake, a prominent NIJ-accredited lab, with injury assessment conducted at Wayne State University with Dr. Cynthia Bir, the nation’s pre-eminent biomedical engineer on ballistic impacts and blunt trauma. The Alternative® is next-generation less-lethal technology for today’s law enforcement, designed to save lives, protect officers, and mitigate risk.
